Who?
Everyone can be in two categories: Manageable and Unmanageable.
Manageable factors include high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation (A-Fib), obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, and smoking.
Unmanageable factors include age, race, (with African American, Hispanics, and Asian/Pacific Islanders being at higher risks), women, and family history of stroke.
What?
Stroke simply put is a brain attack. It happens when blood vessels in the brain, called arteries, are blocked or burst. There are two types of strokes Ischemic stroke, which happens when blood flow through the artery is blocked. This is a major cause of many strokes. Secondly, Hemorrhagic stroke happens when the artery is ruptured and this, causes swelling, pressure, and damage to the brain. With both of these strokes the consequences can be long-term disability and even death, therefore, calling 911 is very important as soon as you recognize a change in your loved one’s condition.
